Compare Birth Control Options at a Glance

Pills, patches, rings, shots, implants, IUDs — there are a lot of ways to prevent pregnancy, and they don't all work the same way. Sorting through them on your own isn't easy.

I created this printable birth control comparison chart to make comparing your options simpler.

It covers how effective each method is, how long it lasts, what side effects to expect, whether it might help with acne or heavy periods, and which ones I can usually start over telehealth.

There's no method that's automatically right for everyone. What fits you depends on things like your medical history, whether preventing pregnancy is the main goal or just one of several, how much lighter periods matter to you, and honestly, just what you'd actually be comfortable using day to day.

Want more detail on any of these? Read my full Guide to Birth Control for Teens and Young Adults, which walks through each option one by one.

This chart is designed to give you a quick overview, but it can't replace individualized medical advice. During a visit, we'll talk about your goals, your medical history, your periods, acne concerns, and anything else that's important to you so we can choose the option that fits your life.
